Electric Vehicles and LSVs for Sale in New York

Max-EV street-legal Low-Speed Vehicles and off-road EVs available in New York. Road-legal with VIN and DMV registration.

There is a real difference between a golf cart and a Low-Speed Vehicle, and it matters the moment you want to use one on a public road. The Max-EV lineup at Cowboy Carts covers both sides: street-legal LSVs that carry a VIN and register through the New York DMV, and the Max-EV ORV for buyers who need an electric vehicle built for off-road terrain.

LSVs vs. Golf Carts

A standard golf cart has no VIN. It is not manufactured to any federal motor vehicle safety standard. Take it onto a public street and you are outside the law in New York. A Low-Speed Vehicle is a different legal classification entirely.

LSVs are built to Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards, known as FMVSS. The safety equipment required by FMVSS includes headlights, tail lights, seat belts, a horn, mirrors, and others depending on configuration. The VIN assigned at manufacture is what enables you to title the vehicle and register it at the DMV. After registration, the Max-EV LSV is legal on roads posted at 35 mph or under and can be insured as a motor vehicle.

Common Questions

A golf cart has no VIN and is not built to federal safety standards. It cannot be legally driven on public roads in New York. A Low-Speed Vehicle meets FMVSS requirements, carries a manufacturer-assigned VIN, and can be titled and registered at the DMV the same way a car can. Once registered, it is legal on roads posted 35 mph or under and can carry standard vehicle insurance.

The Max-EV 2-door and Max-EV 4-door LSV models are street-legal on roads posted at 35 mph or under, once titled and registered through the DMV. The Max-EV ORV is not a road-legal vehicle. It is purpose-built for off-road terrain.

Max-EV LSVs are built and regulated for roads posted up to 35 mph. Contact us for speed specifications on the specific model you are considering.
